Wisuwat Pruksavanich
Assistant Professor Dr. Wisuwat Pruksavanich is one of Thailand’s distinguished. saxophonists in contemporary classical music, internationally recognized for his artistic innovation and scholarly contribution to expanding the expressive possibilities of the saxophone.
He gained international acclaim as a soloist during the world premiere of The Dawn of Darkness by Narong Prangcharoen, performed with the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra at the Ki Zu Na Concert 2012 in Sumida Triphony Hall, Tokyo. This landmark performance established his reputation as a compelling interpreter of contemporary repertoire, combining technical virtuosity with profound musical sensitivity. His album Hard Fairy received a nomination for Best Instrumental Album, and he was personally nominated for Best New Artist at the 11th Komchadluek Awards.
Dr. Wisuwat completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Saxophone Performance at the College of Music, Mahidol University, studying under Prof. Shyen Lee. He later earned his Doctorate in Instrumental Studies (Saxophone) from the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków, Poland, under the supervision of Prof. Andrzej Rzymkowski. His artistic research focuses on contemporary saxophone techniques, creative performance practice, and the integration of Western contemporary aesthetics with Asian musical traditions.

As an active international performer and educator, Dr. Wisuwat has been invited to present masterclasses, lectures, and performances across Europe, Asia, and beyond, including Poland, Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Japan, the Netherlands, Slovenia, France, Croatia, Australia, and Hawaii. His presence in these international contexts reflects his role as a cultural ambassador for Thai contemporary music and saxophone artistry.
Beyond performance, he is engaged in creative research and repertoire development. His works such as Multiphonic Virtuoso, An Imperfect Scheme, and other contemporary projects explore extended techniques, progressive rhythmic structures, and cross-cultural musical language. Several of these projects have been published in peer-reviewed academic journals.
Dr. Wisuwat is a member of the Bun-Leng Project, an ensemble dedicated to creating and performing new works for saxophone and contemporary chamber settings, contributing significantly to the expansion of modern repertoire.
He currently serves as a saxophone instructor at the College of Music, Mahidol University, and is an active committee member of the Asian Saxophone Congress and the Thailand Saxophone Association. He is also the co-founder of Samila Sound, an independent music publishing platform dedicated to promoting contemporary music and new repertoire. Through his multifaceted career as performer, researcher, educator, and arts entrepreneur, Dr. Wisuwat continues to shape the future of contemporary saxophone performance in Thailand and on the international stage.
